Beginning work at Henry J. Smith Architects as an interior designer, Aya continued to gain experience at Reich Design Associates, PLC in the state of her alma mater, Virginia Tech. At Reich Design Associates, Aya assisted in both commercial and residential design, work which gave her critical knowledge and led to her pursuing a graduate degree.

With her newly obtained MArch degree, Aya has continued to increase her interest in the relationship between practice and education of an architect. She has traveled extensively in both Western Europe and the Far East as part of her research, and came back to the Midwest, where architecture embodies American culture and beauty.

Aya’s awards accreditations include her article “An Online Spatial Portfolio: Documenting the Legibility and Literacy of Architectural Space” found in the 2012 issue of POLYMATH: An Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Journal. She was the recipient of the Thesis Book Award from the Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design. Her academia qualifications extend to teaching as well. In the summer of 2012, she was part of InsideArchitecture at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Currently, Aya works as a project architect for von Weise Associates where she has been since 2012.

Love of food is also one of Aya’s passions. She likes to explore restaurants and neighborhoods to discover interesting foods in the Chicagoland area.
