After getting her M. Arch, Karla held a position as a teaching assistant for the workshop at Parsons for incoming graduate students. While in NYC she fully embraced the lifestyle of never sleeping and took a position at SOM – her main projects were the NY Jets Training Facility and the renovation of Manhattan House, an iconic Gordon Bunshaft residential building. She had the pleasure of working with large teams comprised of widely varied personalities and cultures.

In an effort to slow the pace of her life, Karla took a job at LRK Architects in Memphis and worked primarily on single family residential projects. Time there was spent studying the details of how people live and understanding the human scale. However, Memphis proved to be too slow. Chicago’s pace is just right. In June of 2012, Karla started at von Weise Associates.

Karla’s experience comes from offices of all sizes, working construction, and rebuilding her own house from the ground up. Her work has been published in Metropolis Magazine. While not in the office she is most likely on a ladder holding a tool or running down the street after a 2’10” tall renegade child.
