von Weise Associates Hosts Chicago Studio Program
von Weise Associates is hosting four fourth year architecture students from Virginia Tech’s Architecture School in Blacksburg, Virginia. Isaac Currey, Rachel Montague, John Sturniolo, and Erin Young began the semester in January by moving into the office, using the resources made available to them to support an intense curriculum of site analysis, urban mapping, and conceptual design. Partnering with Redmoon Theater Company, their semester will culminate in an architectural proposal for the company’s current location. In tandem with the final stages of the design, the students are now part-time interns at von Weise Associates, working with and learning from the staff.
The Chicago Studio Program has been highlighted in Virginia Tech’s “Spotlight on Innovation”.
“The towering architecture of Chicago seems far removed from the rolling mountains of Blacksburg, Va., but through the College of Architecture and Urban Studies’ Chicago Studio program, the windy city has become an extension of Virginia Tech’s main campus.
Chicago is the third-largest city in the United States. It’s also home to some of the most celebrated architecture in the world and numerous top-tier architecture and design firms, making it a valuable destination for architecture and design students to link academia and practice.”
