A multi-generational retreat for family living and entertaining that maximizes natural light and connection to the outdoors.

An addition and renovation to a 4-bedroom residential project completed in 2005, the original client has passed ownership on to his daughter and son-in-law. The redesign adds 7 bedrooms, additional living and dining space, a new pool and a hot tub, a pool house office outbuilding, and substantial new outdoor entertaining space. The focus was to maintain a seamless flow from inside to outside, allowing for both visual and actual access to the outdoors and nature.

The extensive use of glass and open spaces ensures transparency and communication between the indoor and outdoor environments, fostering a continuous interaction with nature and a harmonious living experience.

Encased in a transparent glass box, the stair hall features glass railings and floating wood treads, seamlessly blending modern design with the natural surroundings. It not only facilitates circulation but also serves as a focal point, accentuating the interconnectedness of the various living spaces while providing stunning views of the landscape.

Working closely with our landscape and interior design partners, the flow between exterior and interior spaces was achieved with glass corridors connecting several large pavilions set within the landscape. Moving through the house, you are constantly connected to different landscape elements both within the constraints of the plan and off into the distance.
