Historic guidelines are rigorous and the exterior massing and details of the house are strictly controlled, especially areas in view from the street. We took this as an opportunity to differentiate the front of the house, which is very traditional, from the back of the house, which is more open and includes larger shed dormers. This difference is more striking on the interior where the spaces at the front of the house are discreet and defined by full walls while the spaces at the back are open and modern in their organization. The main stair hall is a large vaulted space and provides a glimpse of the type of spaces and details in the kitchen and master bedroom.
